HTC HD7S Review
By mimidelores
After releasing the HTC HD7S, HTC decided to release another version of it called the HTC HD7S that operates using the Windows 7 “Mango” platform. The phone is supposedly an upgraded and improved version of its predecessor but one that withheld many of the well-loved qualities. Other than being a smartphone that operates on the Windows platform, its largest selling point this time will be the super large WVGA Super LCD display for its screen.
Design:
In the aspect for design the HTC HD7S retains most of its outlook from its predecessor. The device still retains a 4.3-inch screen, which is one of the largest in the Windows 7 line up and the three touch sensitive buttons (the back, Windows and Search button) below it. Overall, there are not many changes made on the design, but if one were to inspect it closely at the back, you could see that the device now sports a gold or yellowish accent around the camera.
The dimension of the HD7S is the exact replica of the HTC HD7 measuring at 122 x 68 x 11.2 mm. The case of the HD7S is a metal piece finishing which is grey to give it a high-end look. The built-in metal piece on the back of the phone could also be used as a camera stand for taking pictures or when one is using their phone to view their videos or pictures. The phone is slightly heavy as compared to other models weighing at 162 grams, but its slim design makes up for it so that it does not appear to be too bulky.
Features:
The biggest improvement of this device from the HD7 is its 4.3-inch, which now incorporates the latest technology using the WVGA Super LCD display that is the largest in the Windows 7 platform lineup. This new technology gives the device a better color saturation, wider viewing angle that also features better and sharper resolution. Since the phone is now operating using the Windows Phone 7 “Mango” platform, it also comes with the NoDo update. One of the biggest improvement is the copy and paste feature that makes surfing so much easier while using Marketplace and other programs.
And no Windows phone will be complete without Microsoft Office, the Office apps, One Note is available for those who wish to work on document like Word, Excel and Powerpoint, the app itself is simple and straightforward to use. The other significant upgrade for the HD7S is that it features the same 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash.
Like all Windows 7 phones, you can update to Mango OS to enjoy the various new features there. The phone also features 3G, Bluetooth WiFi 802.11n and a GPS system. Other than these features, the HTC HD7S also comes with a 16GB internal storage and the 1230 mAh battery. The battery has garnered positive response; users stated that with minimal usage the phone could last over one day before having to be charge. On the audio part the phone is equipped with the Dolby Mobile and SRS WOW HD surround audio.
Pros and Cons:
As mentioned before the main selling point of this HTC model is none other than the super large and upgraded Super LCD screen the features sharper and better resolution for viewing purposes. The upgrade camera function that now comes with the dual LED flash is also much welcomed. The NoDo update that features the copy and paste functionality also makes searching a lot easier while surfing.
However, for down part for this phone is that it is a little hefty to carry it around with you in a pocket, this is because 162 grams is a little bit heavy for some of us. Also, because the phone is running on a newer operating system, which is the Windows Phone 7, you might find that there are not many apps that is ready for this phone, seeing that this operating system is not that popular at the moment.
However, this scenario might change once “Mango” is updated. And for those who have many things to store on their phone, this might not be the phone for you seeing that there are no extension memory slots available for this gadget at the moment.
Conclusion:
All and all the HTC HD7S smartphone was not much of a surprise as compared to its predecessor, but it is a good phone that is equipped with all the necessities that a basic smartphone should possess. While it might be the choice for those who opt for a power phone, but it is definitely a pick for those who are getting started for smartphones and also for Windows supporters.
