Coby LEDTV2226 22-Inch LED Backlit HDTV: A Solid Budget LED HDTV

By

Users looking for a HDTV to replace their 20” bedroom TVs or computer monitors may now find another alternative in the form of the Coby LEDTV2226. Delivering 1080p resolutions with a built-in digital TV tuner this 22” HDTV model fits well in small areas while being offered at a bang for your buck price.

Design

Going for a simple look and feel the Coby LEDTV2226 has rounded corners and wide bezels but still looks like a current generation HDTV. This is mainly because it uses edge lighting as part of it's LED backlighting technology so the panel is quite thin compared to last generation HDTVs. This HDTV is as usual a solid black with a thick stand and glossy surface finished base. While it won't get any second glances it won't get any glances for the wrong reasons either. It should fit well in any bedroom, office or wall as it can easily be wall mounted through 75mm VESA mounts.

Features and Specifications

As a smaller HDTV the Coby LEDTV2226 uses a 22” LED back-lit LCD screen but still manages to deliver 1080p resolutions. It has a respectable image contrast ratio of 40,000:1 and a refresh rate of 120Hz, so there should be no ghosting or motion blur issues. Other features include digital noise reduction, a V-chip for parental controls and an Electronic Program Guide support. This HDTV does come with built-in speakers but due to the size of the unit they are each only at 5W with normal audio functions.

Connection-wise the Coby LEDTV2226 has one HDMI port, one component video input port, one composite video input, one audio line-in, one s-video input port, one VGA or D-Sub port, one audio line in jack, one headphones jack and one coaxial digital audio output.

Performance

The Coby LEDTV2226 provides good performance with above average image and video quality. Most 1080p media played smoothly but audio was a bit tinny. The digital TV tuner works surprisingly well with cable but doesn't do so good for analog signals on its own or with an external antenna attached. Provided that you have some good cables, the Coby LEDTV2226 does quite well as a computer monitor but the limited amount of connections does mean that you're going to have to choose between your gaming console or Blu-ray player (you can also just as easily hook up a PS3 and have both) for the single HDMI port.

Conclusion

Overall, the Coby LEDTV2226 is a good 22” HDTV with support for 1080p resolutions. As its price is below $200 for most places, this HDTV offers some really solid bang for your buck despite its connectivity and audio limitations. It's general purpose performance also makes it a good contender for wall mounted displays in public areas such as offices, shopping malls and many more.
